Robert Beaser

  • The Juilliard Orchestra debuts Beaser’s new orchestral work in New York in the Winter of 2013.
  • Beaser's Ground "O" sees performances at the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra under Gerard Schwarz, to whom the work is dedicated, April 25-27, 2013.


Douglas J. Cuomo

  • Cuomo’s new opera Doubt, with libretto by John Patrick Shanley based on his play, is set to premiere at Minnesota Opera on January 26, 2013, with a run of four additional performances through February 3 directed by Kevin Newbury and conducted by Christopher Franklin. The Guggenheim’s Works and Process presents a preview of Doubt in New York on November 4 and 5 which will be streamed live on the web and include a panel discussion with Douglas J.Cuomo, John Patrick Shanley and Kevin Newbury, moderated by Robert Marx. www.mnopera.org and  www.guggenheim.org


Kamran Ince

  • Kamran Ince’s first opera The Judgment of Midas, commissioned by Dr. Crawford H. Greenewalt Jr. to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Archeological Exploration of Sardis, premieres with Present Music, in conjunction with Milwaukee Opera Theatre, in Milwaukee on April 12, 2013 directed by Jill Anna Ponasik and conducted by the composer.  www.presentmusic.org


Pierre Jalbert

  • Jalbert’s Fanfare Da Camera, written for Da Camera of Houston, is set to premiere on September 28 at the Cullen Theater in Houston, Texas. Da Camera will also perform Jalbert’s Trio for clarinet, violin and piano at the Menil Collection on April 9, 2013. www.dacamera.com
  • On October 4, Jalbert's music travels to New York with a performance of Transcendental Windows by the Mannes American Composers Ensemble, led by Lowell Liebermann at the Mannes College of Music, October 4, 2012.
  • On October 13, Synchromy performs Jalbert's Trio for violin, cello and piano at Occidental College in Los Angeles. www.synchromymusic.org


Hannah Lash

  • Violations, for three singers, two pianos, two vibraphones and electronics premieres at Yale University on March 28, 2013.
  • Lash's orchestral work Music for Loss is performed on November 4 at Lawrence University.
  • Lisa Moore and Ashley Bathgate, also known as the duo TwoSense, perform Lash's Friction, Pressure, Impact for cello and piano on October 4 at Roulette in Brooklyn, with subsequent performances to be announced shortly. www.roulette.org
  • Lisa Moore premieres selected new piano etudes by Hannah Lash at Columbia University’s Miller Theatre in November.
  • Andy Kozar performs Lash's new work for solo trumpet and electronics at The Stone in Manhattan's Lower East Side, March 28.
  • The composer is currently completing a monodrama titled Stoned Prince which premieres with Loadbang at the Cutting Edge Festival at New York City's Symphony Space, April 8, 2013.


Lei Liang

  • Cuatro Corridos, a chamber opera for soprano, piano, guitar and percussion and commissioned by soprano Susan Narucki, premieres on May 8, 2013 at University of California, San Diego. The performance features Susan Narucki, Steven Schick (percussion), Aleck Karis (piano) and Pablo Gomez (guitar).
  • Liang’s new work for chamber orchestra, commissioned by the Callithumpian Consort and their music director Stephen Drury, debuts on February 21. The performance is part of the Lei Liang ComposerPortrait at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston, MA. www.callithumpian.org.


Fred Lerdahl

  • Bridge records releases The Music of Fred Lerdahl, Vol. 4 this winter. The new album will include Lerdahl’s Spirals for chamber orchestra, Three Diatonic Studies for solo piano, Imbrications for ensemble, Wake for soprano and ensemble, and Fantasy Etudes for ensemble and features performances by the Odense Symphony Orchestra, Argento Ensemble, Boston Symphony Chamber Players and eighth blackbird. www.bridgerecords.com
  • The Daedalus String Quartet performs Lerdahl’s complete string quartet cycle on October 18 at the Gardner Museum in Boston. www.daedalusquartet.com
  • Lerdahl’s new a cappella choral work Cornstalks premieres with Harold Rosenbaum and the New York Virtuoso Singers on October 21 in New York City. www.nyvirtuoso.org
  • On April 9, 2013, Trio for violin, cello and piano debuts with the Peabody Trio at New York City’s Merkin Concert Hall.


Andrew Norman

  • Andrew Norman’s slate is full for the 12/13 season, beginning with the premiere of a new chamber work for the Walden Chamber Players on October 28 at the Andover Newton Theological School.   • The Spring of 2013 bears witness to premieres of new works for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra on April 13 and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project on May 17. Andrew is currently Composer-in-Residence at both ensembles throughout the 12/13 season. www.bmop.org and www.laco.org


Stephen Paulus

  • The Shoemaker, an opera in one act with libretto by Michael Dennis Browne based on the short story by Leo Tolstoy, premieres in Minneapolis on September 29, 2012, conducted by Philip Brunelle.
  • The Nashville Symphony Orchestra, led by Giancarlo Guerrero, debuts Paulus' Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra on October 4, 2012 in Nashville. www.nashvillesymphony.org
  • Paulus' Violin Concerto premieres with The Cleveland Orchestra, led by Giancarlo Guerrero and featuring soloist William Preucil on October 11, 2012. www.clevelandorchestra.com


Tobias Picker

  • Picker’s captivating work for orchestra and narrator set to the words of Herman Melville, The Encantadas, sees its West Coast premiere at Jacaranda Music in Santa Monica, CA, October 20, 2012. www.jacarandamusic.org
  • Picker continues work on his opera Dolores Claiborne set for world premiere at San Francisco Opera, September 15, 2013. The opera receives its first complete run through, with piano, at a workshop in San Francisco on December 4 and 5, 2012. More info here
  • Opera Theater San Antonio and newly appointed Artistic Director Tobias Picker celebrate the birth of a major new American opera company with an Inaugural Gala Concert at San Antonio’s Majestic Theater on May 23, 2013 featuring Patricia Racette, Dolora Zajick, Jay Hunter Morris and 5 additional international opera stars accompanied by The San Antonio Symphony conducted by Sebastian Lang-Lessing. Opera Theater San Antonio plans to be the resident opera company of the new, soon to be completed, state of the art Tobin Center for the Performing Arts which is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2014. Opera Theater San Antonio's first fully staged productions shall take place during the 2014-15 Season.

Howard Shore

  • Violinist Nicola Benedetti's new album on Decca, The Silver Violin, features Shore's Concertino from his score to Eastern Promises and the album currently stands at no. 36 on the UK's top 40 album chart and no. 1 on Amazon's Music Best Sellers list. more info here
  • 10 years beyond the Fellowship of the Ring premiere, Shore's music from The Lord of The Rings trilogy shows no signs of slowing its onward march worldwide in live performance. The Fellowship of the Ring is performed Live to Projection with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (Melbourne, October 4-6), the 21st Century Orchestra (Paris, October 24-27), and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (Adelaide, Australia, November 3). The Two Towers and The Return of the King are performed in concert by the RTE Concert Orchestra (Dublin, October 28), and the Rotterdam Philharmonic (Rotterdam, April 19-21), respectively.


Joseph Schwantner

  • Dream Drapery, Thoreau Songs for contralto and baroque string quartet debuts with the Galax Quartet and Karen Clark on October 21 at the Indiana Landmarks Center in Indianapolis, IN. www.galaxquartet.org
  • Following the premiere in Indianapolis, Schwantner visits the Indiana University School of Music for a four-day composer residency from October 22 through 25.


Alvin Singleton

  • Singleton’s new ensemble work for Philadelphia-based new music ensemble and advocacy group Astral Artists premieres on February 16, 2013 in Philadelphia. www.astralartists.org 
  • The Alabama Symphony Orchestra performs Singleton's recent fanfare Miaka Kumi on January 17 and 20, 2013, conducted by Roderick Cox. www.alabamasymphony.org  Miaka Kumi was commissioned by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in 2010 and composed in honor of Maestro Robert Spano on the occasion of his 10th anniversary as Music Director of the orchestra.


Morton Subotnick

  • Subotnick's new "opera without words," Lucy, Song and Dance sees its first performance at the Library of Congress as part of the institution's Founder's Day celebrations on October 30, featuring Joan LaBarbara and video projections by Lillevan.
