Robert Beaser’s Spring Songs Debuts with Eliot Fisk and Yehuda Hanani in the Berkshires

The first two installments of Robert Beaser’s new song cycle Spring Songs debuts with guitarist Eliot Fisk, cellist Yehuda Hanani and soprano Jennifer Zetlan at the Close Encounters With Music series in Great Barrington, Vermont on March 23. Commissioned for Fisk and Hanani by Close Encounters’ Commissioning Project, the songs are set to Lullaby by Alfred Noyes, and Jack and Jill by Louis Untermeyer, creating a charming new set of children's songs presented in Beaser's elegant and direct style.

Wishing to highlight what Fisk calls “the very communicative, sensitive, vocal quality” of Hanani’s playing, the two men created the program, “Old, New, Borrowed and Blues.” Collaborating with Zetlan, the three artists are performing a rich collection of music by French, American, British, Spanish and German composers. Fisk says, “Sometimes the cello carries the song, sometimes the voice, and sometimes all three.”
