Pierre Jalbert's <em>Transcendental Windows</em> at Oberlin

Timothy Weiss leads the Oberlin Sinfonietta this month in a performance of Pierre Jalbert’s Transcendental Windows. Composed in 2000 for David Alan Miller and the Albany Symphony, the piece is comprised of nine continuous sections, each of which is titled after a different aspect or technique of Tiffany’s windows. The concert takes place on September 24 at the Warner Concert Hall in Oberlin, Ohio and also features works by Stephen Hartke, Steven Stucky, and Richard Danielpour. Of Transcendental Windows, Jalbert describes:

The work was part of a project that the Albany Symphony undertook, in which they commissioned a series of chamber pieces to be based on the stained glass windows of Louis Tiffany from the early 20th century. These Tiffany windows are located in historic churches in Albany and Troy, New York. Transcendental Windows was inspired by the Tiffany windows located in First Presbyterian Church in downtown Albany, most notably the immensely colorful “Sea of Galilee” window.

Also this month, the Music from Copland House Ensemble performs Jalbert’s Crossings, for flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano. The program, which takes place on September 28, celebrates the 15th Anniversary of Copland House at Merestead.
