<em>Cuatro Corridos</em> Premieres at University of California San Diego Featuring Music by Lei Liang

Cuatro Corridos, a chamber opera in four acts with music by Lei Liang, Hilda Paredes, Arlene Sierra and Hebert Vázquez debuts on May 8 at the Experimental Theater of the Conrad Prebys Music Center at the University of San Diego. Led by soprano Susan Narucki and writer Jorge Volpi, Cuatro Corridos is a multidisciplinary music-theater project addressing a critical human rights issue: the trafficking of people across the US-Mexican border. Based on true events, Cuatro Corridos tells the story of four women whose lives are intertwined and changed forever. Lei Liang comments:

Composers Hilda Paredes, Arlene Sierra, Hebert Vázquez and I were asked to write music for the four-act opera, each composing one act. This act, Rose, is the voice of the policewoman. Each of the three instrumentalists derives the musical materials from one of the 3 voices of the other acts.

Susan Narucki is joined in the premiere performance by pianist Aleck Karis, percussionists Steven Schick and guitarist Pablo Gomez.
