Bernard Rands in Residence at University of Missouri - Kansas City; <em>Canti Lunatici</em> in Performance

Bernard Rands is in residence April 10 through 13 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music where he sees a performance of his Canti Lunatici in the version for soprano and chamber ensemble. The first installment of Rands’ magnificent Canti trilogy, Canti Lunatici is an uninterrupted string of vivid text settings of 15 different poems from a multitude of sources, from Quasimodo, to Arp, to Whitman and Plath. The piece is distinguished by Rands’ rich and expressive use of instrumental textures and is the lunar component of Rands’ Canti cycle of works focusing on celestial themes of sun, moon and eclipse. Canti del Sole, for tenor and orchestra, won the Pulitzer Prize in Music in 1983. Canti Lunatici is performed by the conservatory's Musica Nova ensemble at White Recital Hall in Kansas City, led by J. Hayes Bunch.
