Arvo Pärt Premieres in the US and Canada

The Ars Nova Singers, in collaboration with the Sphere Ensemble, present the US premiere of Arvo Pärt’s Salve Regina, along with a performance of his Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten for string orchestra, in two concerts. The October 11 performance takes place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado and the October 12 performance is held at the First United Methodist Church in Boulder. Salve Regina, for choir, celesta and string orchestra, was commissioned by the Essen Cathedral Chapter to mark the 75th birthday of Bishop Dr. Hubert Luthe. The concert also features a celebration of the choral music of Benjamin Britten.

Canadian premieres of two of Pärt’s choral pieces, L’abbé Agathon and Adam’s Lament, took place on October 1, presented by Soundstreams Canada. Fellow Estonian Tõnu Kaljuste led the performance, which featured Choir 21 and soprano soloist Shannon Mercer.
