Zoë Martlew's Works for Cello Now Available from Schott Music Ltd., London

To start off the New Year, three recent works for solo cello by composer and cellist Zoë Martlew are now available from Schott Music, Ltd., London. The works include Salat Babilya, Babylonian Prayer for solo cello without bow, Berceuse for cello and piano, and Stir for solo, singing cellist without bow. Each piece employs extended techniques, and is perfectly suited to advanced students and professional performers alike.

Much in demand, Martlew is an internationally featured performer with a wide-ranging career as a contemporary music soloist and improviser, who also works in film, multi-media and electronica. She has worked with such noted new music ensembles as Ensemble Modern, London Sinfonietta, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and Music Theatre Wales. Martlew has collaborated with avant-garde singer Dagmar Krause, Radiohead, and experimental bands Plaid, Marc Ribot/Ceramic Dog and Modified Toy Orchestra.

Martlow has also worked extensively in dance and theatre. Her collaborations include working with New York City Ballet dancer/choreographer Antonia Franceschi and Ballet Black at the Lindbury Studio, Royal Opera House, London’s POP8 Giant Olive Theatre, and Ballet Boyz Encore, as well as with Berlin-based choreographer Richard Siegal’s experimental dance theatre group The Bakery.

A graduate of the Royal College and Academy of Music and the Chopin Academy in Warsaw, Martlew’s commitment to the next generation of composers and performers is evidenced by her numerous educational activities. Her outreach includes masterclasses, workshops in schools, universities and prisons around the world, and she also coaches the cello section of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
