Yellow Barn Festival Celebrates the Music of Stefano Gervasoni

This year’s Yellow Barn Festival continues its tradition of eclectic and adventurous programming with a season of beloved and lesser-known works of the 20th and 21st centuries. As part of this season’s focus, the Festival hosts Stefano Gervasoni as composer-in-residence and presents a series of portrait concerts featuring his music.

Gervasoni’s residency commences on August 2, with a concert of solo works including Phanes for flute, Strepito e garbuglio for double bass, Luce ignota della sera for solo piano, Anadromous Coda for solo percussion and selections from Prés: Books I-III for solo piano. On August 3, the Festival presents a performance of Gervasoni’s An for ensemble, alongside his Adagio ghiaccitao (after Mozart, K.356) for violin and toy piano. Additional performances include Sviete Tihi for two pianos and two percussionists (August 4), descdesesasf for string trio (August 5), Six lettres à l’obscurité (und zwei Nachrichten) for string quartet, and SONATiNeXPRESSIVE for violin and piano (August 6).

Also during the season, the Festival presents music by Jörg Widmann (180 beats per minute, July 14), Erich Wolfgang Korngold (Piano Quintet, Op. 15, July 15), Oliver Knussen (Prayer Bell Sketch, July 16), Toshio Hosokawa (Drei Engel-Lieder, July 16), Thomas Adès (Lieux Retrouvés, July 22), Beat Furrer (Aer, July 23), Luciano Berio (Naturale, July 23; Circles, August 6), György Ligeti (String Quartet No. 1, July 29), and Matthias Pintscher (A Twilight’s Song, August 6).
