On March 2, at the “Duo YUMENO Tenth Anniversary Recital” held at Carnegie Hall, the world premiere of Paraphrase, a new work by Toshi Ichiyanagi for shamisen and violoncello, was performed by Yoko Reikano Kimura (shamisen) and Hikaru Tamaki (violoncello).
A leading figure in the field of composition in post-war Japan, Toshi Ichiyanagi has frequently composed chamber works and concertos for Japanese traditional instruments and western instruments together. Paraphrase, which was commissioned by Duo YUMENO, is the newest of such works to date.
