World Premiere of Luciano Berio's <em>For Lenny</em>

On November 23-24, the McGill Symphony Orchestra, led by Alexis Hauser, performs Luciano Berio's For Lenny in celebration of Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday. Composed in 1988 for Bernstein's 70th birthday, the work has not previously been performed.

Numerous performances of Berio's music also take place this month around the world. Firstly, Berio's complete Sequenzas were performed on November 5 at the Wiener Konzerthaus as part of the Wien Modern Festival 2018. In addition, on November 8-10, Nathalie Stutzmann leads the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de Sao Paulo in Johannes Brahms's Opus 120 No. 1, Sonata for Clarinet (or viola) and piano, arranged for viola and orchestra by Berio, and featuring violist Horácio Schaefer as the soloist. Then, on November 17, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, led by Matthew Kraemer, performs Berio’s Rendering. Berio's Sinfonia will be performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Roomful of Teeth, conducted by Christopher Roundtree on November 17. The Luxembourgian premiere of this same work takes place on November 24 when it is performed by Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg and Synergy Vocals, conducted by Baldur Brönnimann.
