City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Premieres Julian Anderson's ECHOES at Barbican Hall in London

Jul. 31, 2023

Julian Anderson'sECHOES for baritone, choir, and orchestra, was premiered on July 7 in London by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, led by Oliver Zeffman, featuring baritone Davóne Tines as the soloist. The premiere performance of ECHOES was featured on the first major European classical Pride concert dedicated to featuring the music of queer composers valued for their contribution to classical music. Conductor Oliver Zeffman notes: "Classical music owes a lot to LGBT people, it’s worth saying so, and Pride is the moment for it. So yes, there’s purpose in a classical Pride concert."

ECHOES was commissioned by Oliver Zeffman on the occasion of the concert for Pride month. In addition, Anderson dedicated the work to him in friendship.
