World Premiere of Howard Shore's L'Aube with Susan Platts and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra gives the world premiere of Howard Shore's L'Aube, a new song cycle for mezzo-soprano and orchestra, on October 19, featuring mezzo-soprano Susan Platts and conducted by Peter Oundjian. The premiere is part of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s “Tribute to Maureen Forrester” and was commissioned by the orchestra in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.

Shore’s L’Aube sets texts by the writer, producer and filmmaker Elizabeth Cotnoir, who most recently provided the texts for Shore’s song cycle A Palace Upon the Ruins, for mezzo-soprano and chamber ensemble. Following its debut, L’Aube receives additional performances on October 27 with contralto Noa Frenkel and the University of Victoria Orchestra, conducted by Ajtony Csaba and November 20 with Alain Trudel leading Susan Platts and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra.

Listen to a recording of Shore’s A Palace Upon the Ruins, performed by Jennifer Johnson Cano and musicians from the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, available on Howe Records:
