World Premiere of Gregory Spears's Walden for Vocal Arts DC

On September 16, Vocal Arts DC presents the world premiere of Gregory Spears's song cycle, WALDEN, for baritone and piano at The Kennedy Center. A masterful composer of music for the voice, Gregory Spears has received consistently glowing reviews for his groundbreaking opera, Fellow Travelers which was premiered by the Cincinnati Opera in 2016 and received its New York debut at the PROTOTYPE Festival last January. The opera was heard in Chicago last March as part of Lyric Opera's "Lyric Unlimited" and a new production of Fellow Travelers, directed by Peter Rothstein and conducted by Daniela Candillari, premiered at the Minnesota Opera last June.

WALDEN, based on the writings of Henry David Thoreau, will be performed by baritone Brian Mulligan and pianist Timothy Long and is certain to be a fine addition to the contemporary American art song repertoire. The work will receive its New York debut on March 13 at the Baruch Performing Arts Center.
