World Premiere of Charlotte Seither's <em>Eight Pieces of Precious Time</em>

The world premiere of Charlotte Seither's, Eight Pieces of Precious Time, for horn and violin takes place later this month in Germany. Commissioned by the German Music Council Bonn for its “Young Musicians” competition, the premiere takes place on January 24, 2014 in Brandenburg with Sarah Stück on horn and Alina Stück on violin. The program repeats on January 25. Seither's new chamber work is well suited for performance by professional musicians as well as by younger players.

Seither offers the following description:

Violin and horn appear at first glance to be rather contradictory instruments, and yet both instruments can blend well with each other in their sonority. The work presents a combination of the two instruments in eight short pieces. In them, different playing techniques come into play in which tone and noise are made on equal footing. The fragment-like pieces offer short "spots" in which sound gestures are set up, which only briefly are given the opportunity to develop.

On February 14, vocalist Julia Mihaly gives the world premiere of Seither’s Weitere Machart von Stille, for solo voice, at the Darmstadt Academy of Music. Consisting of 17 short vocal “pronouncements”, the work explores themes of silence and the demolition of sound at the edge of vocal possibilities.
