World Premiere of Akira Nishimura’s Unio Mystica for Piano and Orchestra in Tokyo
Jan. 25, 2024
The Pacific Philharmonia Tokyo, under the baton of Norichika Iimori, performed the world premiere of Akira Nishimura's Unio Mystica for piano and orchestra, featuring Yu Kosuge as soloist on January 27 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Concert Hall.
Commissioned by the Pacific Philharmonia Tokyo, Unio Mystica was the last orchestral work that Akira Nishimura composed before his death last year, so this posthumous premiere is especially poignant. It was performed alongside Nishimura's Kalavinka, a 10-minute work for solo piano composed for and premiered by Kosuge in 2006, and Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 in E major.
