World Premiere of Akira Nishimura's <em>Largo for Strings</em> at the Kusatsu International Summer Music Festival

Akira Nishimura's Largo for Strings is given its world premiere as part of Japan's Kusatsu International Summer Music Academy and Festival in August. The premiere takes place August 27 at Kusatsu Concert Hall, with players from the Panocha Quartet as well as the Quartet Excelsior.

Since 2010, Nishimura has been active as Music Director of the Kusatsu Festival. His Largo for Strings, commissioned by the Festival, was composed in memory of Kazuyuki Toyama, one of Japan’s most influential music critics as well as a founder and former music director of the Festival. The season also features a performance of Nishimura’s Night Glow, for solo piano, on August 19 with pianist Aki Takahashi.
