Wolfgang Rihm's Trio Concerto in World Premiere at Musikfest Berlin

The Musikfest Berlin, which runs from September 2 through 22, celebrates Wolfgang Rihm with several featured performances of his works, including the world premiere of his Trio Concerto for violin, cello, piano and orchestra. Jukka-Pekka Saraste leads the WDR Symphony Orchestra and Trio Jean Paul in the premiere, which takes place at the Berlin Philharmonie on September 17.
Additional performances of Rihm’s works include Transitus, also performed by the WDR Symphony Orchestra Köln, Lichtes Spiel with violinist Leonidas Kavakos joining the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under the direction of Mariss Jansons, IN-SCHRIFT 2 with Peter Eötvös leading the Berlin Philharmonic, as well as the German premiere of Rihm’s Horn Concerto with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and soloist Stefan Dohr conducted by Daniel Harding.
The festival also includes a performance of Georg Friedrich Haas’s recent concerto grosso No. 1 for 4 alphorns and orchestra on September 15 with the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg led by François-Vaxier Roth, as well as Peter Eötvös’s violin concerto DoReMi on September 13 with soloist Patricia Kopatchinskaja joining the Berlin Philharmonic, led by the composer.
