Wigmore Hall Focus Day Highlights the Music of Daniel Kidane, Including the Premiere of Lux Perpetua

Dec. 01, 2024

On November 30, Wigmore Hall hosted a special focus day celebrating the music of Daniel Kidane, appointed Jerwood Composer for the London Symphony Orchestra (2018), and the Paul Hamlyn Award for Artists (2016). This event showcased Kidane’s wide-ranging chamber and ensemble works from the past fifteen years including highlights such as Be Still written for the Manchester Camerata in 2020.

The event also featured the world premiere of Kidane’s new piano trio Lux Perpetua commissioned by Wigmore Hall and performed by the Leonore Piano Trio. Following his acclaimed first piano trio, Flux and Stasis, which was praised by The Times for its " tautly constructed, vibrantly imagined movement and color,” this new addition to the chamber music repertoire was highly-anticipated.

In 2022, Daniel Kidane received an honorary doctorate from Coventry University and is currently a visiting tutor in composition at both the Royal Northern College of Music and Cambridge University; his music has been widely performed, including at the Last Night of the 2019 Proms.
