Washington Square Music Festival's Final Concert of the Season Features Ullmann, Ligeti and Kurtag

On Friday, November 30, the Washington Square Music Festival in New York migrates indoors for its final concert of the season featuring works by Gyorgy Ligeti, Viktor Ullmann and Gyorgy Kurtag. Entitled "Works from the 18th and 20th Centuries" the Festival Chamber Ensemble will perform Ligeti's duo for violin and cello entitled Hommage a Hilding Rosenberg; Kurtag's Hommage à R. Sch for piano, clarinet and viola; and, the evening's featured performance, Ullmann's Weise vonLiebe und Tod des Cornets Christophe Rilke for piano and speaker. With text by the poet Rainer Maria Rilke, this is the final work written by Ullmann during his time in the Terezienstadt concentration camp. Under the direction of Lutz Rath, the final concert of the festival's 49th season takes place in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 371 Sixth Avenue and is free of charge.
