Victoria Borisova-Ollas's Exodus: Departure Debuts with Martin Fröst and Stavanger Symphony Orchestra

On October 6, the Swedish clarinetist Martin Fröst takes on the simultaneous roles of soloist and conductor in the world premiere of Victoria Borisova-Ollas’s Exodus: Departure with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.

Borisova-Ollas’s Exodus: Departure takes its inspiration from the Biblical story of Exodus and its implications for our own history as well as the life cycle of the earth itself. In describing his concept for the concert program, also titled “Exodus”, Fröst writes:

In “Exodus” I wanted to explore themes such as rootlessness, a longing for home and how music develops in exile and in flight … Music is, in its essence, nomadic and its roots have spread through millennia, across continents and between cultures, and has assumed new shapes while wandering and evolving. Music changes, transforms, yet remains itself and encompasses everything.
