US Premiere of Julian Anderson's <em>In lieblicher Bläue</em> with Carolin Widmann and the Seattle Symphony

Violinist Carolin Widmann joins the Seattle Symphony and conductor Ludovic Morlot in the US premiere of Julian Anderson’s In lieblicher Bläue, a symphonic poem for violin and orchestra, on June 11.

In lieblicher Bläue is a musical reflection on the poem of the same name by Friedrich Hölderlin (1770-1843). Commissioned by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Seattle Symphony, the concerto extends the conventional exploration of relationships to the spatial. Beginning off-stage, the soloist’s physical location changes throughout the work, altering the dynamic between soloist, orchestra, and conductor.

Following its premiere in March with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, The Telegraph hailed the work as “ingenious” and “entrancing,” calling Anderson “a composer of ringing, bell-like harmonies and subtly shifting orchestral colour…fully on display in this concerto.”

Repeat performances take place on June 13 and 14 at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall.
