US Premiere of Arvo Pärt's <em>O-Antiphonen</em> at University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory

The University of Missouri-Kansas City presents the US premiere of Arvo Pärt’s O-Antiphonen, for eight cellos, on March 12. The performance, by the UMKC Conservatory’s cello studio, is led by Douglas Moore and takes place at the University’s White Recital Hall in Kansas City, MO.

O-Antiphonen was commissioned by the Cello Octet Conjunto Ibérico, which gave the work’s premiere in Amsterdam in 2008. The work is based on Pärt’s Sieben Magnificat-Antiphonen from 1988, originally composed for mixed choir.

Several other performances of Pärt’s works take place throughout the country this month, including Fratres for string orchestra and percussion with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (March 31, April 1) and Trevecca University (March 31); Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten with the Santa Fe Symphony (March 20), Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra (March 10) and New Orchestra of Washington (March 4, March 6); L’Abbe Agathon with Gloriae Dei Cantores (March 4); Passio at the University of Washington (March 9); and Berliner Messe at Gonzaga University (March 5).
