The Philharmonia Gives the UK Premiere of Aribert Reimann's Piano Concerto No. 2

Mar. 01, 2020

On March 5, the Philharmonia Orchestra, led by Roland Kluttig, performed Aribert Reimann's Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring Nicolas Hodges as the soloist at the Royal Festival Hall in London. The ensemble noted,

"Aribert Reimann’s Second Piano Concerto places the piano at the center of a constantly shifting ensemble. Intense moments from the entire group give way to subdued duets in which the piano partners up with a solo instrument, the restless music constantly changing in a kaleidoscope of color."

(Piano Concerto No. 2/Aribert Reimann/Klaus Billing, pianoforte; Heinz Holliger, oboe and english horn;
Aurèle Nicolet, flute; Hansheinz Schneeberger, violin/Basler Solisten-Ensemble, Francis Travis, conductor)
