Toru Takemitsu's 85th Birthday Anniversary

Toru Takemitsu’s unique sound has captivated audiences around the world. October 8 marks the 85th anniversary of his birth, and February 20, 2016 is the 20th anniversary of his death.

Takemitsu engaged in a wide range of musical composition, including concert pieces, electronic music, film music and pop song. Among some of his most beloved works are November Steps, for biwa, shakuhachi and orchestra, Rain Coming for chamber orchestra, And then I knew ‘twas Wind for flute, viola and harp, Rain Tree Sketch I and II for solo piano, 12 Songs and Equinox for guitar, as well as choral works such as Small Sky.

Takemitsu's music has already become an integral and important part in the repertoire of each genre, and we hope his music continues to be loved and given new life with every performance.
