Tobias Picker's Old and Lost Rivers with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC and Russia

This season marks the 30th anniversary of Tobias Picker’s beloved orchestral tone-poem, Old and Lost Rivers, and the National Symphony Orchestra honors the occasion with performances on March 9 and 11, led by Christoph Eschenbach. Following those performances, which take place at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the NSO takes the work to Moscow and St. Petersburg (March 29-31) as part of the 2017 Mstislav Rostropovich Festival.

Since its premiere with the Houston Symphony in 1986, Old and Lost Rivers has been hailed by critics and audiences across the world, who have called it “beguiling” (The New Yorker), “lushskillfully written” (New York News Day) and “sublimely beautiful” (Kansas City Star).

Also this month, the Azusa Pacific University Symphony Orchestra gives the Los Angeles area premiere of Picker’s And Suddenly It’s Evening (March 3), led by Christopher Russell.
