The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra Premieres Lina Tonia's Oceanus Procellarum in Greece

Mar. 10, 2022

Zoi Tsokanou leads the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere performance of Lina Tonia's Oceanus Procellarum for orchestra on March 18 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The composition is inspired by Oceanus Procellarum, a place on the moon that constitutes the largest "sea" on its surface. Like all lunar seas, Oceanus Procellarum was formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. The Chinese probe Chang'e 5 landed in Oceanus Procellarum on December 2020. The main goal of this work is to create sound masses with multiple colors such as those that are produced after eruptions, giving the listener a sense of the largest lunar sea.
