The New York Philharmonic, led by Kwamé Ryan, Premieres Mary Kouyoumdjian's ANDOUNI (Homeless)
May. 31, 2024
On May 10, Kwamé Ryan led the New York Philharmonic in the world premiere performance of ANDOUNI (Homeless) by Mary Kouyoumdjian in collaboration with the photojournalist, Scout Tufankjian at the Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall. The concert is part of the New York Philharmonic's "Sound On" series. ANDOUNI (Homeless) was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic as part of Project 19.
The creators' aim was to create a hybrid work of music and documentary that reports on the recent events and suffering of the Armenian population in Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh, which the American government considers to be genocide. The composition combines field recordings, interviews, photography and live music performance.
