The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra Performs Thomas Larcher's Die Nacht der Verlorenen

Mar. 01, 2021

Hannu Lintu leads the baritone André Schuen and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Thomas Larcher's Die Nacht der Verlorenen on April 16 at the Concert Hall of the Helsinki Music Centre. The piece premiered in 2008 as part of the event ”Free Radicals: a portrait of Thomas Larcher“ and marked the opening of the London Sinfonietta's season at Southbank Centre. This large-scale ensemble work is based on late fragments Ingeborg Bachmann left, probably never intending them for publication. The composer notes:

"Nowhere do we find that 'artless path', of which the writer herself spoke, more clearly disclosed than in these fragments, scraps, bursts. However, this brittleness, this rawness, made the texts interesting to set. Here I was encountering not polished surfaces but instead rough stones, on to which I could hold and claw my way forward."
