World Premiere by The Crossing of Gavin Bryars's A Native Hill

Dec. 01, 2018

World Premiere by The Crossing of Gavin Bryars's A Native Hill

The Crossing, conducted by Donald Nally, performs the world premiere of Gavin Bryars's A Native Hill on December 14 at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square as part of The Annenberg Center's concert series. This substantial new evening-length unaccompanied work sets texts by the American writer and environmental activist Wendell Berry, from his 1968 essay of the same title.

Additionally, on December 6, the Arcana New Music Ensemble performed an all-Bryars concert featuring a number of his chamber works including excerpts from Laude Cortonese Vol. 3 for soprano, tenor, viola, cello, and double bass (2003-2008), Tre Lauda Dolçe (2007) for solo cello, Lauda Dolçe II for solo viola (2007, rev. 2008), and It Never Rains (2010), and Lauda: The Flower of Friendship (2009), both for electric guitar, viola, cello, and double-bass.
