The American Symphony Orchestra Performs Luigi Dallapiccola's Volo di notte in Concert
Feb. 02, 2009
Two monumental operas of Luigi Dallapiccola come to New York as the American Symphony Orchestra performs Volo di notte and Il Prigioniero in concert on February 20 at Avery Fisher Hall. Comprising the ASO's full evening program entitled Persecution and Hope: Masterworks of Conscience, the operas stand as two of Dallapiccola's most affecting works of monumental moral testaments. Leon Botstein leads the ASO through Volo di notte (Night Flight), a work composed in response to the rise of fascism and based on the work of French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, featuring bass-baritone Richard Zeller, soprano Lori Phillips and tenors Scott Williamson and Peter Tantsits. Richard Wilson gives a pre-concert talk prior to the performances at Avery Fisher Hall on February 20.
