Territorial Premieres of Thomas Larcher's Piano Concerto in Denmark, Norway, and Germany
Nov. 01, 2021
On November 18, Alondra de la Parra leads the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra and soloist Kirill Gerstein in the Danish premiere of Thomas Larcher's Piano Concerto. Norway's Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Kirill Gerstein perform the Norwegian premiere of the work under the baton of Edward Gardner on November 25, and Gerstein joins Semyon Bychkov and the Berlin Philharmonic to perform the German premiere of the Piano Concerto on December 2-4.
Taking as starting point musical ideas firmly routed in the historical canon, Thomas Larcher strives and achieves in his new work to find a novel approach to the concerto form, a particular challenge for a composer-pianist so at home in the historical piano concerto repertoire. Larcher's new Piano Concerto arrives fourteen years following his first piano concerto, Böse Zellen.
