Summer Festivals Featuring the Music of Kurt Weill

Kurt Weill’s music can be heard at festivals around the world this summer. Barry Humphries and cabaret artist Meow Meow team up again this summer with the Aurora Orchestra to present their “Weimar Cabaret,” featuring songs of Kurt Weill and his contemporaries July 11-29 at the Barbican Centre in London. Also in London, the Chineke! Orchestra performs Kleine Dreigroschenmusik at the Southbank Centre in Queen Elizabeth Hall on July 21.

In the US, Sarasota Ballet brings Christopher Wheeldon’s There Where She Loved, a ballet featuring music by Weill, to New York’s Joyce Theater August 14-18. The Staunton Music Festival (VA) performs The Seven Deadly Sins on August 18, featuring Sara Couden as Anna I.

Two concerts at the Elbphilharmonie’s summer festival in Hamburg feature Weill. The Aarhus Symfonieorkester performs The Seven Deadly Sins, with Andreas Delfs conducting and Shara Nova as Anna I, on August 23 (with a repeat performance in Aarhus September 1). To close out the festival, HK Gruber leads the Swedish Chamber Orchestra in Symphony No. 2 on August 31.
