Stephen Petronio Company Premieres Ghost Town Set to Jonny Greenwood's Popcorn Superhet Receiver

Apr. 02, 2010

Beginning April 27th and continuing through May 2nd, The Stephen Petronio Company closes out its 25th Anniversary season with a series of performances at New York City's Joyce Theater including the world premiere of Ghost Town, a new piece set to Jonny Greenwood's string orchestra work Popcorn Superhet Receiver. Greenwood's score (portions of which were featured in the 2007 film There Will Be Blood) features luscious swells of strings and unsettling dissonances as the piece's unabated tension brings to mind the music of Krzysztof Penderecki.

The program also includes 2007's Foreign Import, a piece set to Radiohead's breakthrough rock song "Creep." The premiere of Ghost Town marks the continuation of choreographer Stephen Petronio's collaborations with vital contemporary composers and singer-songwriters, including Fischerspooner, Nico Muhly, Antony Hegarty, Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, Michael Nyman, and Ryan Lott of Son Lux.
