Schott/EAM Launches PSNY

Schott /EAM is proud to announce the launch of PSNY, Project Schott New York, a new digital music publishing platform and the first of its kind to be developed by a major classical music publishing house. In its pilot phase, PSNY's catalog offers a highly selective collection of works by contemporary composers for download by ensembles, programmers and music fans alike. The catalogue features over 70 new solo and ensemble works by more than 30 of the most exciting composers of our time, all available for immediate download or as printed hard copy editions.

PSNY employs an interactive, media-rich online interface connecting musicians and audiences directly with the creators of new work. Most work listings are replete with score samples, streaming audio and video and external links to the composers’ website and other relevant sources of information on the web. PSNY makes it easy for the composers themselves to get involved, giving them the ability to upload and add content and interact with PSNY users. The homepage will include weekly repertoire and performance highlights, blog posts with targeted suggestions for programmers, producers and performers, and the occasional guest blog column from PSNY composers.

Each PSNY Composer Edition is a published edition of the composer's self-published work. The edition preserves elements of the composer’s individual “house style” while conforming to PSNY's professional publishing standards. Composers of today possess a self-producing capacity that is far beyond the capacities of any other era in the history of notated music. We embrace this new development and believe our role as publisher is to make the very best new works available to the public in the most convenient way possible.

The PSNY catalog will continue to grow with new composers and new works introduced on a regular basis. Composers participating in the pilot phase include: Timothy Andres, Robert Beaser, Richard Carrick, Anthony Cheung, Douglas J. Cuomo, Mario Diaz de León, David Felder, Beat Furrer, Kamran Ince, Pierre Jalbert, Phil Kline, Hannah Lash, Lei Liang, David T. Little, Keeril Makan, Alex Mincek, Andrew Norman, Gabriela Ortiz, Tobias Picker, Matthias Pintscher, Joseph Schwantner, Miroslav Srnka, Alvin Singleton, Kate Soper, and Gregory Spears.

"PSNY was born partly out of a fundamental concern I'd been hearing from composers, conductors and ensembles about the need for a new approach to music publishing outside of the traditional models," said Norman Ryan, Vice President of Schott Music Corp. and European American Music Dist.  "We have seen an explosion of interest in new music, especially from a younger generation of players and listeners, and PSNY is ideally situated to build and enhance connections among creators, performers and audiences.  Launching an exclusively digital brand also offers us the opportunity to add new works and new composers much more frequently.  It's a tremendous advance for the field of music publishing and one that will engender new avenues of collaboration and partnerships."
