Roulette Opens in Brooklyn!

Roulette, the long time downtown performing arts center for new music has opened its doors in Brooklyn.  We extend a hearty congratulations to Roulette Founder and Producer Jim Staley and the Board and staff of Roulette on the September 15 grand opening. Roulette's newly renovated, state of the art theater in Brooklyn is the latest addition to the downtown BAM Cultural District that already includes BAM's Howard Gilman Opera House and Harvey Theater as well as the Mark Morris Dance Center, Irondale Arts and American Opera Projects among many others.  Issue Project Room, Theater for a New Audience and BAM's new Fisher Center are all currently under construction in the District and due to open next year.  Roulette adds a new color to the ever expanding community of local and international artists and performers finding a new home in the center of Brooklyn.

Founded in 1978 by three composers, Jim Staley, David Weinstein and Dan Senn, Roulette's first performance space was a loft in Tribeca complete with one piano and a recording facility. Over the years, the popular "Concert Series of New and Adventurous Music" attracted growing audiences and critical attention and seed money from the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts, a fund created with support from John Cage, Jasper Johns and Carolyn Brown, set Roulette on its way.  Now, in its new Brooklyn facility, Roulette will expand its programming with over 160 events this season alone introducing new works of music and dance as well as opening a Gallery for Sound and Media artists. Our own Alvin Singleton and Morton Subotnick will be featured in upcoming concerts this fall.  Congratulations Roulette and welcome to Brooklyn!
