Robert Beaser's Guitar Concerto at Boston Guitar Fest

Robert Beaser's Guitar Concerto at Boston Guitar Fest

On June 28, Robert Beaser's Guitar Concerto receives its first Boston performance as part of the 9th annual Boston Guitar Fest. The performance features Festival director Eliot Fisk as soloist, with Gil Rose leading the Boston Modern Orchestra Project.

Beaser’s Concerto received its premiere in 2009 by Fisk and the Albany Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Alan Miller. Reflecting on the piece, Fisk writes:

I consider Robert Beaser’s Guitar Concerto to be one of the most revolutionary works ever composed for the guitar. Its sheer emotional power, variety of expression, and depth of feeling, place it in a category all its own. As the eminent conductor Jose Serebrier exclaimed after attending the world premiere, “This is the work the guitar has been waiting for for so many years.”

The concert, which takes place at the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, also features a performance of Joaquín Rodrigo’s beloved Concierto de Aranjuez, featuring soloist Zaira Meneses.

Robert Beaser's beloved Mountain Songs, for flute and guitar, is now available in a handsome new performing edition from Schott Music. Visit halleonard.com to purchase your copy today.
