Pierre Jalbert's <em>Piano Trio No. 2</em> in World Premiere with Morgenstern Trio

November 5 marks the world premiere of Pierre Jalbert’s Piano Trio No. 2 by the Morgenstern Trio. The performance takes place at the Leo Rich Theater at the Tucson Convention Center in Tucson, Arizona. The Trio delivers a repeat performance on November 6.

Piano Trio No. 2 was commissioned by Arizona Friends of Chamber Music and sponsored by Boyer Rickel.The piece, in two movements, takes two distinct landscapes as a starting point. Jalbert elaborates:

A few ideas inspired each movement: the first was the thought of a desert landscape at night, desolate and calm; the second came from an incident driving home late at night on an elevated highway running through the center of town. There were just enough cars on the road to feel like it was busy, but there were no traffic jams; everyone was going at a high rate of speed, some cars weaving in and out of lanes. As I glanced at the buildings, they seemed to be going by in slow motion. This provided the impetus for the second movement. 

Also this month, Peter Askim leads a performance of Jalbert’s Les espaces infinis at North Carolina State University on November 2.
