Pierre Boulez Portrait at Wiener Konzerthaus 38th International Musikfest

From May 7 to June 23, the Wiener Konzerthaus’s 38th International Musikfest honors Pierre Boulez with a series of fourteen performances comprising the first-ever presentation of the composer’s complete works. The festival features performances by artists who worked closely with the composer throughout his life, including Daniel Barenboim who led the Boulez Ensemble in sur Incises on May 7, as well as Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Tamara Stefanovich in a program of piano works on May 29.
Additional performances include Figures – Doubles – Prismes and Memoriale (… explosante-fixe… Originel) with the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien and flutist Emmanuel Pahud on June 1, Dérive 1 and Dérive 2 on June 7 with the œnm ensemble for new music, Le Marteau san maître with Ensemble PHACE on June 13 and concluding with …explosante-fixe and Répons with Klangforum Wien on June 19.
As part of the festival, the audience can also attend a photo exhibit by Marion Kalter who worked with Boulez over 30 years. Check out an interview, below, with Boulez about his career and work:
