Peter Eötvös Leads The Cleveland Orchestra in US Premiere of his Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra

Peter Eötvös conducts Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Tamara Stefanovich and The Cleveland Orchestra in the US premiere of his Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra on April 24 and 26. Eötvös will also take part in conversations with Bard College visiting assistant professor Peter Laki prior to both performances. The work saw its world premiere on March 9 by the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra and the pianists Andreas Grau and Götz Schumacher of the Grau Schumacher Piano Duo.

This summer Eötvös' new opera Love and Other Demons sees its world premiere on August 10 at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival. Based on the novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Of Love and Other Demons, the opera traces the events that transpire after a young girl is bitten by a rabid dog in the slave market at the port of Cartagena de Indias. In a town where reason and superstition are at war, the concern quickly shifts from rabies to demonic possession. The girl finds herself imprisoned in the Convent of St. Clare, where Cayetano Delaura, the bishop's exorcist, comes to drive out her demons, only to eventually fall madly in love with the girl and become possessed by ‘that most terrible of all demons.'

The Glyndebourne Opera Festival presents eight performances of Love and Other Demons from August 10 through August 30, conducted by Vladimir Jurowski and directed by Silviu Purcarete.
