Penderecki, Schmidt, Liebermann, Rodrigo at Grant Park Festival

The Grant Park Festival in Chicago is home to several performances of works from our catalogues this summer. The month of July at Grant Park features the program Penderecki Conducts Penderecki on July 15, as the maestro himself leads the Grant Park Orchestra through performances of his Concerto Grosso No. 1 for three cellos and orchestra, featuring soloists Julie Albers, Kira Kraftzoff and Amit Peled and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3.

On July 8, Joaquin Rodrigo’s masterwork Concierto de Aranjuez headlines the program of guitar showpieces with soloist David Russell, and conducted by Alondra de la Parra, one of the world’ leading young conductors.

On July 20 guest conductor Kwamé Ryan leads the Grant Park Orchestra through Rolf Liebermann’s stirring, unbounded work for orchestra Furioso. Rodion Shchedrin’s Concerto for Orchestra No. 3, “Old Russian Circus Music” shares the program with Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 7, led by Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu on July 27.

Finally, on August 12 and 13, Carlos Kalmar leads the Grant Park Orchestra through Franz Schmidt’s apocalyptic 20th-century masterpiece The Book with Seven Seals with soprano Edith Lienbacher, mezzo-soprano Christa Ratzenboeck, tenors Robert Kuenzli and Alexander Kaimbacher, and bass Albert Pesendorfer.
