Krzysztof Penderecki Earns Lifetime Achievement Award

Krzysztof Penderecki has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Classical Music Awards 2012 (ICMA). In addition to this accolade, the Naxos recording of two Penderecki works, Concerto per viola ed archi, percussione e celesta and Concerto per violoncello ed orchestra No. 2, won the Contemporary Music award. The recording was made by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Antoni Wit, and features soloists Grigori Zhislin (viola) and Tatjana Vassiljeva (violoncello).

Penderecki will receive his Lifetime Achievement Award on May 15, 2012 in Nantes, France. A gala-concert will follow the ceremony, featuring the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire performing Penderecki’s Sinfonietta per archi.
