New CD Release of Osamu Kawakami "Suite 'Carapace' [Volume I - III]”

A new CD, “Suite ‘Carapace’", by Osamu Kawakami has been released from Kojima Recordings (ALM Records).

Suite “Carapace” for violin, violoncello and piano is one of the composer's most significant works. Kawakami was particularly inspired by crustaceans and similar arthropods and aquatic animals when he composed this collection for piano trio. This album includes fifteen pieces from Volume I, II, and III, composed between 2005 to 2015. These unique pieces are a product of the composer’s fertile imagination influenced by the ecology and morphology of each individual creature.

The new recording features violinist Yoshu Kamei, cellist Seiko Takemoto and pianist Shizuka Kuretani. All are the composer’s friends and his longtime collaborators. It can be said that these performers have also played a part in creating Osamu Kawakami's music alongside the composer himself.

Of the works recorded on the CD, the performance scores of Volume I and Volume II were published by Schott Music in July 2016 and February 2021 respectively.
