Noriko Koide Named Composer-in-Residence for the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra

Oct. 05, 2022

Noriko Koide has been appointed Composer-In-Residence for the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, the fourth in the orchestra's history. Her tenure will begin in April 2023 and she will serve for three seasons through March 2026. Koide will receive commissions for several new orchestral works, which will be premiered at the orchestra's subscription concerts and at other performances, including an orchestral concert for children and families.

In recent years, Noriko Koide has received several commissions in Japan and abroad. The upcoming world premiere of Swaddling Silk and Gossamer Rain for orchestra was commissioned by BBC Radio to be performed at the BBC Proms Japan. She is also a member of “Doubutsu Ongakutai”, a group of professional musicians and choreographers who are active in Japan and internationally. As a member of this group, Koide works to provide exceptional performances of music for audiences of all ages. We are looking forward to hearing Noriko Koikde's new compositions during her time with the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra.

Swaddling Silk and Gossamer Rain will be premiered on October 29th at Symphony Hall in Osaka by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and on November 5th at Orchard Hall in Tokyo at BBC Proms Japan with Dalia Stasevska conducting.
