New Production of Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera in Vienna; Spanish Premiere of the Gruber/Muthspiel Version of The Seven Deadly Sins

Jun. 01, 2021

Vienna’s Kammerspiele der Josefstadt presented three sold-out preview performances of a new production of Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera on June 3, 5, and 6. This first major staging in Austria since Keith Warner’s 2016 production at Theater an der Wien sprang from the same creative team that premiered Lenya Story in 2017: director Torsten Fischer, music director Christian Frank, and dramaturg Herbert Schäfer.

The Kammerspiele der Josefstadt has released this evocative trailer video:

In addition, the Gruber/Muthspiel version of Kurt Weill's The Seven Deadly Sins for 15 players received its Spanish premiere on June 4 at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao as part of a double bill with Mahagonny Songspiel.
