New Performance Material Available for Paul Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphosis

The performance materials for Paul Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphosis on themes by Carl Maria von Weber for orchestra have been revised. A new engraving, based on the complete edition has been completed and the new score is available for digital perusal here.

In 1936, a final ban was issued by the Nazi government on performances of Paul Hindemith’s works, leading to his eventual emigration to the United States four years later. Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis was the first work he wrote in his new adopted homeland. He began working on the piece in 1940 and completed it in 1943. The New York Philharmonic gave the world premiere of the work in 1944 under Artur Rodzinsky. The premiere of the ballet with choreography by George Balanchine took place in 1952 with the New York City Ballet.
