New Chamber Works by Fred Lerdahl Debut in Los Angeles and Paris

This month sees the world premieres of two new works by Fred Lerdahl for duo ensembles, taking place in Los Angeles and Paris.

On April 12, guitarist David Starobin and violinist Movses Pogossian give the debut performance of Lerdahl’s Three Bagatelles, for violin and guitar at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music’s Jan Popper Theater. The premiere is part of Starobin’s recital program of contemporary duos for violin and guitar. Lerdahl’s Duo for Cello and Piano receives its premiere on April 22 as part of a recital with cellist Anssi Karttunen and pianist Nicolas Hodges at the Columbia Global Center’s Reid Hall in Paris, France.

Last month, the Daedalus Quartet gave the world premiere of Fred Lerdahl’s Chaconne, his latest work for string quartet, at The Arthur Ross Gallery in Pennsylvania. Listen to the Daedalus Quartet’s recording of Lerdahl’s String Quartet cycle below, and find it for sale from Bridge Records.
