Music of Pintscher, Silvestrov and Harvey at Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival

Jun. 29, 2011

Lincoln Center’s 2011 Mostly Mozart Festival features Matthias Pintscher conducting the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) on August 11 at Alice Tully Hall. ICE performs Pintscher’s Occultation, the third work in his Sonic Eclipse cycle. Occultation, for solo horn, solo trumpet and chamber ensemble, saw its premiere in 2010 by Klangforum Wien. In this work, the musical material from the first two parts of the cycle is, as Pintscher describes, “compressed and laid over each other […] As in a stretto, the two repertoires are combined, merged, exchanged. They are so close to each other that they overlap almost identically.”

In addition, ICE performs the New York premiere of Jonathan Harvey's Serenade in Homage to Mozart on a special late-night performance on August 11 at the Kaplan Penthouse, also conducted by Pintscher.

On August 20, pianist Jenny Lin performs Valentin Silvestrov’s Der Bote (The Messenger) at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse on a program that also includes Mozart and Stravinsky. Dan Davis writes, “Valentin Silvestrov’s fascinating Der Bote vainly attempts to recall the lost world of classicism through Mozart quotations that fragment into shards.”
