Music of Joseph Schwantner in Chicago with Flutist Jennie Oh Brown

The flutist Jennie Oh Brown presents an evening of flute music by Joseph Schwantner at Constellation in Chicago as part of the Frequency Series on May 21. The program includes selections of Schwantner’s chamber music, including Silver Halo, Looking Back, Black Anemones, and Taking Charge, all recently featured on Brown’s recent Innova album Looking Back: Flute Music of Joseph Schwantner.

Brown has garnered critical praise following the release of the album in September 2015, described as “vividly detailed interpretations” (Christian Carey) with “playing that reflects the beauty, intensity, rawness, and virtuosity his music requires” (The Flutist Quarterly). Listen to the album, below:

Also this month, the University of Maryland Wind Orchestra performs Schwantner’s recent virtuosic wind ensemble piece Luminosity on May 6 led by conductor Michael Votta. View the score for Luminosity:
