Music of Gavin Bryars at National Ballet of Canada
Jun. 04, 2009
Choreographer Dominique Dumais' work Skin Divers sees its North American premiere this month at the National Ballet of Canada, accompanied by Gavin Bryars' String Quartet No.2. Premiered in 2003, this work is set not only to the music of Bryars but also to the poetry of Anne Michaels, whose poem "Skin Divers" gives the piece its name. Incorporating both spoken word and visual projections as complements to the choreography, Skin Divers explores the concept of "the body as a living archive of experience, or a museum of memory." The work is presented as part of the third annual Toronto Festival of Arts & Creativity.
