Miyuko Oda's Olive Crown Premiered by the Yokohama Sinfonietta in Sapporo
Mar. 30, 2023
Kazuki Yamada led the Yokohama Sinfonietta in the premiere performance of Miyuko Oda’s Olive Crown on March 17 at Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara in Hokkaido. Oda notes:
"The title "Olive Crown" was inspired by the name of Kazuki Yamada, who asked me to compose this piece. The name "Kazuki" is made up of the Chinese characters for "peace" and "tree". In creating this piece, I was inspired by the image of an olive tree, which is a symbol of peace, and an olive crown, which is given to the winner of the Olympic Games. The piece begins with a bright fanfare praising the glory of victory, and the spacious melody sings of hope for peace. I hope that the listener enjoys the modulation between these movements. I wrote Olive Crown while thinking about Mr. Yamada, who always brings us the joy of feeling music. In these days of uncertainty and heartache, I am happy if I can create a moment that sparks a little light of hope."
